Oyster world record smashed by Rune Naeri

Rune Naeri (Swe 89) has eaten 187 oysters in three minutes to smash the world record in County Down.

 He had to swallow more than one per second at the annual Hillsborough Oyster Festival on Saturday.

to Trevor and Jean Neill on their recent move to Scotland.
They would be glad to see anyone who might be in the Perth area for a visit. 

Trevor was an exchangee to Canada and USA in 1959 and was YFA - Ulster Region - Secretary for many years. Trevor participated in many many World and European IFYE meetings in days gone by when only two or three or members would have attended those Conferences from Northern Ireland. Jean was an exchangee from Scotland to Norway in 1969 and also a past YFA Secretary - Scottish Region.

Once an Exchangee Always an Exchangee!

The Exchange Programme follows a great tradition and many lasting friendships have been established over the years, between exchangees and their host families, and even their next generations.

This is certainly true of Maryball Massey from Virginia, USA who has returned to Ireland many times since her exchange in 1962, and is currently staying with one of her former hosts Fiona Cromie (nee Ellis) near Lurgan.

Irish Farmer's Journal Sponsor Oz Experience 

The Irish Farmer's Journal has once again generously sponsored the YFCU Australian Exchange. James Campbell, Northern Editor of the Journal met up with David Caskey, Coleraine YFC, this year's Australian exchangee at YFCU Headquarters recently to present the sponsorship cheque and to discuss David's plans for his three month stint in the antipodes. During his time in Australia David will be hosted by a number of farm families and although it is not a working exchange David will no doubt get a real taste for farming - Australian style. Keep track of David's, and the other YFCU exchanges, exploits here and on the YFCU web page with their regular diary reports as well as in fuller reports to be found in the Irish Farmers' Journal and in the other local agricultural papers.

To Joe Graham on being selected to take part in the Northern Ireland finals of the Milupa Dad of the Year Competition. He was nominated by son William

 In nominating   his dad for the title, William commented :'My daddy is cool. He made me a special seat from a horse's saddle?'

William went on to say his daddy sings them silly songs which  makes them laugh. When I need help, my dad is always with me. We love   him:' said William.

Exchangees meet for Briefing Day in Portrush 

The Exchange Briefing Day sponsored by the YFA was held in the beautiful spring weather in Portrush last Saturday. A combination of team games and short talks gave the exchangees an opportunity to prepare themselves for their trip as well as meet each other.

Congratulations Linda!

Linda Steele, Vice-Chairperson of YFA, was elected chairman of the European Committee of 4H and Young Farmers Clubs at the European Rally in Austria.  For the past three years, Linda has represented not only the interests of the YFCU but also each of the five young farmers’ organisations in the British Isles, including Macra na Fierme in the Republic of Ireland, on the central body of the organisation first as board member for Group 1 and more recently as vice-chairman of the organisation.  During that time she played a key role in promoting and developing the ECYF4HC work which was rewarded not only by this recent appointment but also with a marked increase in member organisations from an ever-increasing number of EU and accessionary countries.
